Just as the last decade in software was defined by the rise of vertical SaaS - tools purpose-built for the workflows, language, and edge cases of specific industries - we believe the next decade in AI will follow the same arc.
At Revaia, we are drawn to vertical AI platforms that embed intelligence directly into the operational fabric of specific professions - supporting users in their daily work in ways so seamless and essential, they often don’t realise they’re using software at all.
That’s why we led the $30M Series B in Definely, a legal AI platform built by lawyers, for lawyers. Definely enhances legal drafting, review, and collaboration by deeply integrating with how legal teams actually work and think - delivering accuracy, speed, and confidence in high-stakes environments.
This is also a strategic milestone for Revaia: our first UK investment since launching the London office, and a reflection of our commitment to backing founders building indispensable software.
Definely exemplifies our AI thesis: deeply embedded, workflow-native platforms with strong user affinity, grounded in real-world use cases and designed to scale. Vertical software transformed SaaS by owning the workflow - vertical AI is now elevating that same playbook.
Solving a Personal Challenge
Definely was born out of first-hand experience at the heart of the legal profession. Co-founder Fergus MacDaeid, a lawyer at Freshfields with a visual impairment, experienced the daily inefficiencies of navigating complex legal documents while working at a leading global law firm. Frustrated by the lack of accessible and intuitive tools, he partnered with fellow lawyer Nnamdi Emelifeonwu - who shared both top-tier legal training and a passion for technology.
They began with a simple but brilliant idea: make it easy for lawyers to instantly locate and understand key clauses within lengthy contracts. It was a small task - yet one that every lawyer faces, repeatedly. That single use case quickly revealed the broader opportunity to transform how legal professionals interact with documents.
Today Definely leverages AI to streamline contract review and drafting for legal professionals with precision-first, context-aware tools seamlessly integrated into Microsoft Word, the software at the heart of all legal workflows.

The opportunity ahead
Definely is entering its next phase of growth by deepening its role as a core technology layer within legal teams. With the introduction of Enhance - a context-aware, agentic AI framework - Definely allows legal professionals to engage with documents through intelligent, guided prompts that support faster, more accurate drafting and review. Built directly into existing workflows, it provides structure, insight, and confidence where precision matters most.
The platform is live across the UK, US, and Canada, with the US already accounting for over a third of ARR and showing strong commercial momentum. Enterprise-grade from inception, Definely is trusted by high-calibre law firms and corporate legal departments alike, and is well positioned to expand its footprint internationally while increasing share of wallet across global institutions.
While initial traction came from the top end of the market, the core problems Definely addresses - inefficiency, information overload, and lack of contextual clarity - are shared broadly across the legal profession. As adoption of AI in legal work accelerates, Definely is uniquely positioned to lead the shift, offering a highly sophisticated toolset that remains intuitive, embedded, and purpose-built for legal teams of all sizes.
Built humbly and proudly, Definely reflects the lived experience of its founders and the trust of its users. The team remains committed to one goal: helping lawyers everywhere work with greater clarity, speed, and confidence.
